Students protest, block road

KATHUA, Dec 4: The irate students today blocked the Kathua road in front of Government Degree College Kathua to protest against the failure of private transporters to provide fare concessions to them.
The protestors shouting slogans against the Transport authorities accused the transporters of not given fare concession to them despite seeking tax rebate from Government on this account.
The protestors squatted on the road and did not allow any vehicle to pass up to three long hours resulting into a huge traffic jam. To over come the traffic chaos in the town, the authorities diverted traffic from other routes.
Later RTO Kathua along with ARTO and other senior police officers visited the venue of dharna and assured the students that they will take up the issue with Transport Commissioner to find out an early solution to the problem.
The irate students also alleged that the drivers and conductors were misbehaving with students and they were being insulted when they demand concession in fare.
They warned to intensify agitation in case the issue was not settled immediately.
