BANDIPORA, Nov 22: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that his party will not accept any other solution to Kashmir issue which is against the wishes of the people of the State.
While speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a rally at Naidkhai in North Kashmir district of Bandipora Omar said: “National Conference has promised that it will resolve the Kashmir issue as per the wishes of the people. We won’t accept any other solution which does not take the wishes of the people along.
The Chief Minister said that economic packages and development could not be an alternative to the just resolution of the political issue of Kashmir. “Building bridges and laying roads cannot be a substitute to the political issue of Kashmir. Until we build a political bridge that connects people and their political aspirations, reality on the ground will not change,” he said.
Lashing out at Bharatiya Janata Party for leveling allegations of looting the State and the “family raj” statement, Omar said that Bharatiya Janata Party is “frustrated” by the support which it is getting form the people during its elections rallies.
“This is not a new thing. This is happening time and again. Perhaps, they (Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi) are frustrated by seeing crowds at our rallies. Had we really looted the State would people come to our rallies?” Omar said.
“People would have thrown me out and shot at me. You can see people welcoming me. They are not allowing me to go because it is their love for me. This overwhelming support is a proof that we have not looted people of the State. But we have created a place in their hearts,” he added.
While hitting back at Congress President Sonia Gandhi who accused NC of not implementing the Food Security Bill in Jammu and Kashmir, Omar expressed astonishment that Congress is saying it when they knew it was not beneficial for the State.
“It is a fact that I thoughtfully did not implement the Act because if I had done that I would have snatched ration of around 20 lakh people. 20 lakh people who are covered in the category would have gone into uncovered,” Omar said.
He said that Congress leadership knows it well why we did not implement it in the State. “Even Ambika Soni supported us not to implement the Act. But I am astonished as to why Ambika Soni and other Congress leaders made their president (Sonia Gandhi) to make such a statement because they know it well that FSA will be disadvantageous to the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
“I deliberately didn’t implement it and I am happy for not implementing it. I will not implement it until it benefits people of the State. Until it is disadvantageous I will oppose its implementation,” Omar said.
Hitting at the opposition PDP, Omar told people “to punish them for not caring about the flood victims”.
“You have to punish them (PDP) for going ahead and thinking only about their political rehabilitation and not for the rehabilitation of flood victims,” he said.
Without naming the PDP contesting candidate for Sonawari, Omar accused him candidate of stealing land of the people in Bijbehara.
“PDP has brought all the thieves into their part with the aim to get money and with that money buy votes in the elections. Since people won’t vote them by their will they will use money,” he said.
Chief Minister slammed the PDP patron Mufti Sayeed for his dopublespeak on safeguarding Article 370 and restoring Autonomy to the State.
“That person who has done maximum erosion to Article 370 is today talking of it safety. That man who in connivance with Congress eroded Autonomy of the State is today talking of its restoration,” he said pointing to Mufti.
Omar and his security had to face a tough time as hundreds of NC supporters enthusiastically ghearoed him after he addressed a poll rally in Naidkahi in Bandipora.
Soon after Omar finished his speech and left the dais, the charged up supporters broke the security barricade and ran toward Omar to greet him and shake hands with him.
The police and Chief Minister’s personal security guards could not control the supporters, mostly youth. Encircling Omar, they hugged and kissed him.
Realizing the crowd could not be handled, Omar asked the security men to let the supporters meet and greet him.
