Nadda chairs meet on child health in Shillong

SHILLONG, Jun 5 : Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda on Friday chaired a Parliamentary Consultative Committee here in Meghalaya to discuss ways to improve various aspects of child health policies in India.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel and several Lok Sabha members also attended the meeting which focused on various matters related to child health programme in India.

While, appreciating the initiatives taken by the central government and achievements in reduction of MMR, IMR, Under 5 Mortality Rate, Neonatal Mortality Rate, etc. the members of the Committee shared their insights and gave their valuable suggestions.

Nadda thanked the Parliamentary Consultative Committee members for their active participation and assured them that their valuable inputs will be given due consideration by the Ministry.

“Government of India, under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to provide high quality maternal and child healthcare services, access to proper nutrition, mental well-being and safe environment,” Nadda wrote on his X handle.

The Parliamentary Consultative Committee members also visited the super speciality North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong and took overview of infrastructure & functioning of the hospital along with special focus of child health care services offered at the instutition.

“The members visited the pediatric OPD & ward and interacted with patients and were satisfied with the services and health care delivery offered for the pediatric cases at NEIGRIHMS,” an official said.

Director, NEIGRIHMS, Prof. Nalin Mehta said that the overall meeting and visit of the union Health and Family Welfare Minister was successful.

“The initiative by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare will definitely improve child health care across India and NEIGRIHMS is committed to be part of this initiative as a tertiary health care Institute in the region,” Mehta said.

Established in 1987, NEIGRIHMS was the first postgraduate medical institution in the North Eastern region, and the third in the Country established by the union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
