JAMMU, June 4: Traffic Police (Rural) Jammu has registered two separate FIRs against as many individuals for allegedly violating the route permit norms.
A Traffic Police official said acting on specific information regarding violations of route permit norms by Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) operating on the National Highway-144A (Jammu-Poonch Highway), a special enforcement drive was conducted at Salani Bridge area in Rajouri, resulting in registration of FIRs against two violators.
He said during naka checking, a bus (JK02DP-8989) owned by one Kewal Krishan of Digiana Ashram, Jammu and driven by one Suksham Sharma of tehsil Kalakote, District Rajouri was intercepted for checking.
On being asked to produce the relevant documents, the Traffic Police official said the driver furnished photocopy of a route permit indicating authorization for the Poonch-Jammu route.
He said suspecting the foul play, the document was verified through the concerned RTO.
The verification revealed that the route permit was forged, as the original permit ws valid only for the Jammu-Banihal route, he said, adding that consequently the vehicle was seized and the driven detained.
Accordingly a case FIR number 291/2026 under sections 336/340/318 of the BNS and 66/192(a)/182 MV Act was registered at Police Station Rajouri and further investigation taken up, the Traffic Police official said.
In a separate operation, he said a bus (JK02DK-0502) owned by one Jagjeet Singh of Akhnoor and driven by one Rameez Ahmed of Surankote, operating from Jammu to Jammu was intercepted at Salani Bridge area.
He said the verification of the documents confirmed that the vehicle was operating illegally on the Poonch-Jammu route.
Accordingly, the vehicle was seized, and the driver was detained and booked in case FIR number 292/2026 registered under section 221 BNS and 66/192(a) MV Act at Police Station Rajouri, he said.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the SSP Traffic (Rural) Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, said that the matter would also be taken up with the competent authorities for cancellation of the route permits of the vehicles seized as well as the driving licenses of the detained drivers.
