Samba police arrests 5 bovine smugglers, seizes 2 vehicles

SAMBA, June 4: Samba police has arrested five bovine smugglers, rescued three bovines and seized two vehicles during a joint search operation with Army in Mansar area late last night in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Samba.
Police said on June 3 at about 2130 hours, Police Post Mansar received information from a local resident of Channi Mansar regarding suspicious movement of three unidentified persons carrying torches in the area.
Taking cognizance of the information, a joint search operation with Army was launched by Samba police headed by Additional SP Samba accompanied by DySP, SOG Samba, SHO Police Station, Samba and in charge, Police Post (PP), Mansar.
During the course of the operation, a police party headed by in charge PP Mansar intercepted a vehicle Tata Punch bearing Registration Number JK19A-9059 during special Naka at Kah Morh which was coming from Mansar area and moving towards Khoon area of district Udhampur.
During checking, two bovines were found inside the vehicle and were being transported from district Samba to district Udhampur without any valid permission. Both the persons travelling in the vehicle have been apprehended.
The arrested bovine smugglers have been identified as Mohd Rafiq, son of Bashir Ahmed of Krimchi Jard district Udhampur and Mohd Arif, son of Abdul Qayoom of Maitra, district Ramban. The vehicle has been seized by police and both the bovines have been rescued.
A case FIR No. 133/2026 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station (PS) Samba and investigation started.
After sometime, the same Naka party intercepted another vehicle Maruti Suzuki 800 bearing Registration Number JK02AB-8992 at Naka Kah Morh and during checking, one bovine was found inside the vehicle without any valid permission. Three persons travelling in the vehicle have been apprehended.
They have been identified as Mohd Aslam, son of Nazir Ahmed of Maitra, district Ramban, Mohammed Liyquat, son of Sharfdin of Battal Ballian, district Udhampur and Nasir Choudhary, son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Krimchi Jard district Udhampur. The vehicle has been seized by police and bovine has been rescued.
A case FIR Number 134/2026 U/S 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Samba and investigation started.
During sustained questioning, the apprehended persons disclosed that they had previously been involved in bovine smuggling and cattle theft-related activities. They further revealed that on the intervening night they had travelled from Udhampur towards the Mansar area with the common intention of committing bovine theft and facilitating bovine smuggling.
The entire operation was conducted under the close supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba.
