JAMMU, June 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has reconstituted the Tree Authorities for the Jammu and Srinagar Municipal Corporations under the provisions of the J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000.
As per a Government order, the Commissioner of the respective Municipal Corporation will head the authority as Chairman, while senior officials from the Municipal Corporation, Urban Forestry and Horticulture departments will serve as members.
The authorities have been tasked with ensuring the preservation of trees within their jurisdictions, obtaining details of trees from landowners and occupants, laying down standards regarding the number and type of trees in different localities, assisting public and private institutions in plantation and conservation efforts, and implementing measures aimed at protecting urban greenery.
