CHENNAI, June 2 : The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed as withdrawn, a petition seeking to register a FIR and initiate proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK Founder C Joseph Vijay over allegations of income suppression.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan allowed the petitioner to withdraw the plea and dismissed it as withdrawn.
The petition, filed by M. Rajkumar of Chennai city, had sought directions to investigate alleged undisclosed remuneration from the film ‘Puli’ and to examine Income Tax records for possible prosecution under tax and criminal laws. It also requested forwarding of materials to the Enforcement Directorate for PMLA scrutiny.
It may be noted that a controversy arose over discrepancies in the affidavits filed by Vijay in Triuchy East and Perambur constituencies, while entering the fray for the Assembly elections. However, Vijay immediately submitted a corrected affidavit updating his correct income deatils.
