NEW DELHI, Jun 2 : Prasar Bharati’s digital streaming platform WAVES OTT has crossed one crore registered users, marking a significant milestone in the growth of India’s public service digital media ecosystem, the public broadcaster said in a statement on Tuesday.
Prasar Bharati said the platform has emerged as one of the country’s largest public streaming destinations, offering free access to more than 24,000 content titles, over 15,000 hours of programming and 140 live television channels.
According to the statement, WAVES OTT, which was launched in November 2024, now reaches audiences in more than 130 countries through mobile, web and connected TV devices, with content available in multiple Indian languages.
The platform hosts content spanning entertainment, news, education, culture, spirituality and public service genres.
It also offers more than 200 radio services, live event streaming, educational programming through PM eVidya channels, digital editions of publications such as Yojana, Kurukshetra and Rozgar Samachar, devotional streams from prominent temples and archival content from Prasar Bharati.
“The achievement demonstrates the growing relevance of digital public service media in the digital age and validates the vision of creating a single destination for television, radio, on-demand content, education, culture and heritage,” it said.
WAVES OTT, which has recorded more than 1.4 crore downloads and is now targeting two crore registered users by March 2027, now plans to expand content partnerships, increase device and platform distribution, and strengthen regional and educational content offerings as part of its next phase of growth.
