Police solves 2 theft cases in Kathua, recovers 5 motorcycles, two laptops

KATHUA, May 30:- In continuation to a drive launched against the thieves/vehicle lifters operating in this district, Kathua police has solved two theft cases, arrested two thieves and recovered stolen items including two Laptops, one Redmi 5G Mobile Phone and five Motorcyles from their possession.

This was disclosed by Dy SP Headquarters, Kathua Ravinder Singh along with other police officers at a press conference here, today. He said in the first instance, on dated 13.04.2026, one lady namely Prem Lata, wife of Vijay Padha of Shiva Nagar Kathua, tehsil and district Kathua lodged a written report stating herein that at 4:50 PM when their whole family was away for a mourning, a thief had entered their residence by breaking main door with iron pipe. Quoting her, he said the thief took away two Laptops (one of Apple Company), one RedMi 5G Android Phone and Jwellery. On this a case FIR No. 185/2026 U/S 331(3)/305 BNS stands registered at P/S Kathua, he added.
Dy SP said during the investigation a team led by SHO PS Kathua rounded up several suspects in the instant case. During sustained questioning one person namely Nitish Sharma @Toka, son of Anil Sharma of Ward No 19 Shivanagar Kathua, tehsil and district Kathua disclosed that he has committed theft in the house and on his disclosure stolen items were recovered from his possession. The investigation is underway, he added.
Singh said in the second instance, on 29.05.2026, one person namely Rajat Kumar, son of Sham Lal Kumar of Ward No. 13, Shastri Nagar tehsil and district Kathua lodged a written report stating that his Motorcycle bearing Registration Number JK08P-0172 has been stolen by unknown thief from outside his house. On this case FIR No. 259/2026 U/S 303(2) BNS stands registered at P/S Kathua. During the investigation the police team led by the SHO PS Kathua rounded up several suspects in the instant case. During sustained questioning one person namely Vikram Kumar, son of Raj Kumar of Ward No 02 Kothey Kathua, tehsil and district Kathua disclosed that he has committed theft and on his disclosure the Motorcycle bearing Registration Number JK08P-0172 and also four more Motorcycles have been recovered from him which are also presumed to be stolen, he added.
