Srinagar, May 20: The opposition BJP on Wednesday said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have “lost faith” in the ruling National Conference (NC) due to its politics of “corruption and misgovernance”.
A grand joining programme was organised here in which hundreds of people, including youth and prominent workers from the NC and other political parties, joined the BJP, the party said.
“The people of J-K, especially the youth, have lost faith in the ruling NC due to its politics of corruption, misgovernance and failure to work for the welfare and development of the common people,” BJP J-K general secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul said here.
Among those who joined the BJP were Danish Riyaz Dar (NC), Shabir Langoo, Mohd Yousuf Zargar, Bhartiya Krishak Samaj J&K vice president Tariq Sofi and Sanoor Choudhary, the party added.
Welcoming the new entrants into the BJP fold, Koul said there is a growing support for the party in the Kashmir valley which reflects the people’s trust in the policies and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The BJP has emerged as the only party committed to transparency, development, good governance and equal opportunities for all sections of society. The growing support for the BJP across Kashmir reflects the people’s trust in the policies and vision of PM Modi,” he said.
He said people of Kashmir are associating with the BJP and the party would continue to organise such joining events in the valley.
“Today, thousands of people attended the programme and hundreds have joined the party. It shows that the BJP is acceptable now.
“Sometime ago, people used to be afraid of getting associated with the BJP. Now, they are joining the BJP in front of the media; it is a huge thing,” Koul said.
Welcoming the new joinees to the party, the party functionary thanked them and said, “It shows that the BJP is growing in J-K, especially in the Kashmir valley.”
