JAMMU, May 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has decided to rename Jammu Congress office as ‘Rajiv Bhawan’.
A function is being organized at the JKPCC headquarters, Jammu tomorrow (On May 19) in this connection, which will be presided over by the JKPCC president, Tariq Hameed Karra and attended by several senior party leaders, district presidents and other party functionaries.
The Chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party, Sonia Gandhi has appreciated the move of JKPCC to name the renovated party headquarters Jammu as ‘Rajiv Bhawan.’
In her reply to a letter by PCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra informing her about the decision of the JKPCC to name the party headquarters in Jammu, after its renovations, as Rajiv Bhawan, Sonia Gandhi appreciated the move of the JKPCC team.
Karra informed Gandhi about the decision of JKPCC to name the renovated office of the party in Jammu in the name of former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, on the eve of his martyrdom day, which falls on May 21.
Ahead of his martyrdom day, a function is being organised tomorrow at PCC office Jammu. To be led by PCC president, Tariq Hameed Karra, all senior leaders, former ministers, Legislators, District presidents and frontal wings shall participate in the function from 11 am onwards, JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said.
It would be a befitting tribute to the former Prime Minister, who sacrificed his life for the nation on May 21, 1991. A globally acknowledged leader for his peace initiatives, Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister of the country, whose policies focused on preparing youth for 21st century challenges based on promotion of science, IT & Computer education. India has emerged a global leader in IT and Computer Science sector, due to the timely initiatives of Rajiv Gandhi, he added.
His another big achievement is lowering the voting age from 21years to 18 years and introduction of modern three- tier Panchayat Raj system in the country, through 73rd and 74th amendment giving 33 percent reservation to women besides SC, ST, OBC proportional to their population at different levels.
