KATHUA, May 16: Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua non-gazetted employees on Friday postponed their ongoing agitation for three months after receiving a written assurance from the college administration regarding the finalization of long-pending Service/ Recruitment Rules.
The employees had been holding a peaceful protest for the past six days, pressing for the immediate finalization of recruitment rules, which they said had delayed promotions, seniority fixation, correction of pay anomalies, and parity with employees posted at Government Medical College Jammu and Government Medical College Srinagar. OPD services at the institution remained affected during the period of the protest.
During the protest, Raghunandan Singh, along with Updesh Andotra and other leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party, visited the site and interacted with the employees. The leaders acknowledged the employees’ demands as genuine and assured that the issue had already been taken up with higher authorities.
The Principal of Government Medical College Kathua also met the employees and conveyed that the matter had been taken up with the Health and Medical Education Department. He provided a written assurance, based on communication from higher authorities, that the process would be completed within a maximum period of three months and promised to personally monitor the progress in coordination with the Administrative Officer.
