West Pak refugees demand ownership rights on land

KATHUA, May 15: West Pakistani refugee led by its chairman, Labha Ram Gandhi assembled here, today and strongly demanded grant of land ownership rights to them.
The protestors raised slogans in favour of their burning issues saying that they have left thousands Kanals of land and other immovable and movable property in West Pakistan and migrated to Jammu during India Pakistan war.
A large number of refugees including women assembled here and highlighted their demands and urged the Government to give justice to them.
While talking to media president of refugees, Labha Ram Gandhi said “We are thankful to Government for granting us citizenship rights and compensation to nearly 5500 West Pakistani Refugee families,. But till the date we were not given land ownership rights,. The Refugee were allotted nearly 47,000 kanals of land for their rehabilitation but despite the passing 50 years they were not given legal rights of land allotted to us which created problem to us”.
He said that DC Jammu has called a meeting of tehsildars to discuss on this matter. “We hope that Government will issue special order to give us legal rights of our land”. He said that Government needs to give full legal land ownership rights to West Pakistani refugee on the land which is in possession of them since years.
