SRINAGAR, May 15: The police today said that anti-drug operations, awareness campaigns and public outreach programmes were intensified across several districts of Kashmir under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan.
A spokesperson said that in Budgam district, police attached two residential properties belonging to drug peddlers in Chadoora. A house worth around Rs 30 lakh at Chitroo Dangarpora was attached in a case involving recovery of over 300 kilograms of poppy husk, while another house worth around Rs 50-55 lakh at Hassipora was attached after recovery of more than nine kilograms of charas-like substance during investigation of another NDPS case.
In Handwara, police along with Revenue and Excise officials destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in Gund Kurhoo village and registered a case against the accused person involved in the cultivation, the spokesperson said.
Police also organised anti-drug awareness programmes in Baramulla district, including a mini marathon and awareness lectures at Madina Public High School Baleharan. Thana Diwas and PCPG meetings were held in several areas to strengthen police-public coordination and spread awareness against drug abuse.
In Kulgam district, police arrested four drug-peddlers during naka and recovered heroin, charas powder and ganja from their possession. Police also destroyed illicit poppy cultivation in Nowpora during a separate operation.
