Pak PM welcomes growing business ties with China

ISLAMABAD, May 15: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday welcomed the growing business-to-business cooperation with China during a meeting with a business delegation from the country.
The Chinese delegation was led by Qian Xiaojun, founder and president of IBI Beijing United Technology – a major Chinese industrial e-commerce and digital technology company.
Sharif also praised President Xi Jinping’s leadership and said he was looking forward to visiting China later this month.
According to a statement from Sharif’s Office, the 11-member delegation called on Sharif in Islamabad and discussed plans to expand digital economy cooperation and industrial collaboration between the two countries.
Welcoming the delegation, Sharif said Pakistan and China shared historic ties and remained “all-weather strategic cooperative partners”.
The prime minister appreciated IBI Group’s decision to establish its Digital Economy Headquarters in Pakistan and expressed satisfaction over the expanding business cooperation between Chinese and Pakistani companies.
He said it was encouraging that IBI planned to promote cooperation in the digital economy, investment facilitation and industrial collaboration.
Qian said IBI hoped to help build the digital backbone needed for Pakistan’s economic transformation and added that the proposed Digital Economy Headquarters would serve as a command centre for that transformation.
It would create opportunities for Pakistani small and medium-sized enterprises by helping connect them to the Chinese market, said Qian. (PTI)
