Himachal Pradesh witnesses light rain, thunderstorms; Met predicts another wet spell from May 11

SHIMLA, May 7: Some parts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed light rains on Thursday, while several others were lashed by thunderstorms and lightning, the meteorological centre here said.

Among the places that witnessed thunderstorms were Shimla, Jubberhatti, Sundernagar, Jot, Kangra and Bhuntar.

In the 24 hours since 4 pm on Wednesday, Sarahan in Sirmaur district received 20 mm of rain, followed by Amb (13.4 mm), Rohru (12 mm), Pandoh (11 mm), Kasol (9 mm), Mandi (6.4 mm), Sujanpur Tira (6 mm), Jot (5.6 mm) and Ghamroor (4.2 mm).

Meanwhile, the Shimla Met office has predicted light rain and snow in the middle and high hills on Friday and a wet spell from Monday, as a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Sunday.

It has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kilometres per hour at isolated places in the state from May 11 to 13.

On the temperature front, Keylong was the coldest at night, recording a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius. Una was the hottest during the day, recording a maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius.

According to the Met office, there will be no noticeable change in minimum temperatures over many parts of the state in the next three to four days.

However, the maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by two to five degrees Celsius over many parts of the state during the period, it said. (PTI)
