Last Rozgar Mela was held across the country on January 24, 2026 in which the Prime Minister distributed 61,000 job letters through video conferencing while the Union Ministers and other dignitaries gave the letters physically at 45 locations including the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
However, the Rozgar Mela couldn’t be held in-between due to imposition of Model Code of Conduct by the Election Commission of India in view of Assembly elections in five States/UT. The MCC ended with completion of election process a day before.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the 19th Rozgar Mela is now proposed for May 23 and the locations are being finalized. Most likely, the locations will be between 45 to 50 including both rotational capitals of Jammu and Kashmir i.e. Jammu and Srinagar, where the Union Ministers will be deputed for physical distribution of letters among the youth selected in different Central Government departments.
The Prime Minister will also address the newly recruited youths through video conferencing from New Delhi.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh will coordinate the Rozgar Mela and address the youth.
The Railways Ministry accounts for majority of jobs in the 19th Rozgar Mela. However, several other Central Ministries have also finalized the appointment letters which will be given by the Prime Minister virtually on May 23.
“The Rozgar Mela is a key initiative aimed at translating the vision into action in line with the Prime Minister’s commitment to accord the highest priority to employment generation. Since its inception, more than 11 lakh recruitment letters have been issued through Rozgar Melas organized across the country,” the sources said, adding the newly recruited candidates, selected from all parts of India, joined various Ministries and departments of the Central Government.
The sources said appointments through the three major Central recruiting agencies – Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and Railway Recruitment Boards – have risen sharply. Between 2004 and 2014, these agencies together made 7.22 lakh appointments. However, since 2014, this number has increased by one-and-a-half times, to 10.96 lakh.
More than 20 lakh long-pending promotions have been cleared in the last 11 years, ending a prolonged phase of stagnation that once saw many Government employees retire from the same post at which they were appointed.
