JAMMU, May 4: In a major crackdown on drug peddlers, Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached a property worth around Rs 2 crore belonging to a habitual offender in Pathankot, Punjab.
Officials said the action was carried out by a team of Police Station Janipur headed by SHO concerned, Inspector Vikram Sharma, in connection with a case registered under FIR number 04/2025 at Police Station under the NDPS Act, as part of sustained efforts to dismantle the financial networks of those involved in narcotics trade.
They said the accused, Vinod Kumar, alias Kuda, located in Islampur, Pathankot, Punjab, was identified as a repeat offender with multiple cases registered against him in different police stations of Jammu division.
He had allegedly acquired the property using proceeds from drug trafficking, they said.
During the course of investigation, officials said police traced the residential property located in the Islampur area of Pathankot, which was found to be registered in his name as well as in the name of a family member.
The property, equipped with modern and high-end amenities, indicated a lifestyle funded through illegal earnings, while investigations revealed that the accused had no legitimate source of income to justify such assets, they said.
Officials said the attachment was carried out under relevant legal provisions to target proceeds of crime and weaken the financial base of drug peddlers.
They added that the accused had continued involvement in narcotics-related activities despite multiple legal actions in the past.
Notably, this is not the first such action against the accused, as another property linked to him in the Paloura area of Jammu had earlier been identified and processed for attachment.
