World approaching largest energy crisis in history: Putin’s Envoy

MOSCOW, May 3 : The world is approaching the largest energy crisis in history and doesn’t even realise it, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev, who is also the special presidential representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, said.

“The world is sleepwalking into the biggest energy crisis in history – and only now, some smart people are beginning to notice,” Dmitriev said on X, commenting on an interview of fellow investor Eric Nuttall to Bloomberg, in which he predicted oil price to reach $150 per barrel soon.

Earlier, International Energy Agency (IEA) chief Fatih Birol warned of a threat of diesel and jet fuel shortages in Europe.

William Walsh, the director general of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), subsequently said that flight cancellations due to jet fuel shortages could begin in Europe by the end of May, as was already happening in some Asian countries.

The escalation surrounding Iran has led to the effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for supplying oil and liquefied natural gas from the Persian Gulf to global markets, and has also impacted oil exports and production. Due to the blockage, most countries around the world are seeing rising prices for fuel and industrial products.
