KATHUA, May 2: Residents of village Merath and Ghatti area held a strong protest demonstration against land mafia active in Ghatti industrial area who are forcibly grabbing the public land and creating terror among land owners.
The land owners assembled near Ghatti Industrial Estate and raised strong protest against land mafia. The people widely condemned the illegal action of mafia and said that they are permanent owners of land but some land dealers want to get their land to sell it to Industrialists on higher rates. They are threatening and terrorizing them and dumping the material in their land. Some people have cultivated their land but mafia is dumping material in it and destroying their crops.
They informed the police about the matter but did not get fruitful response so far.
The MLA Jasrota, Rajiv Jasrotia took serious note of this act of land mafia and criticized the Revenue Department, Police Department and District Administration for giving free hand to land grabbers who are involved in grabbing of State land under the nose of administration.
He said that the administration needs to firstly identify these mafia people and take necessary action against them. He said that these people are befooling people. A big nexus is operating in the area of Ghatti , Merath and Nanan . “We are working on this issue and those who are behind this land mafia will be exposed”. He has also demanded their property be investigated besides the source of their income.
He asked the investigating agencies to take this matter seriously to have justice to poor people.
