Govt approves 18 pc hike in passenger fare

JAMMU, Apr 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved an 18 percent hike in fares for various categories of commercial passenger vehicles operating across the Union Territory.

An official notification in this regard was issued today by the Transport Department, according to which, there will be 18 percent increase in the fares for big buses (stage carriages), medium and minibuses (stage carriages), taxi/maxi cabs (base model contract carriages) including vehicles such as Sumo, Bolero, Tata Indica, Swift, Tata Winger and Tempo Traveller, medium segment tourist taxi/maxi cabs such as Tevara, Scorpio and Qualis Xylo, premium class tourist taxi/maxi cabs including Innova and Fortuner, auto rickshaws (petrol version), stage carriages such as Tata Magic (auto).
In a separate provision, the Government has also fixed fares for e-rickshaws and e-autos operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the revised rates, e-rickshaws will charge Rs 15 per kilometre while e-autos will charge Rs 25 for the first kilometre and Rs 20 for every subsequent kilometre.
