JAMMU, Apr 27: A strong protest demonstration was organized today by BJP Kashmir Displaced District (KDD), Tika Lal Taploo Mandal, at Jagti Camp. The protesters condemned the State Government for imposing ill-conceived schemes such as NFSA without adequate consultation with the community.
The protest was led by H. L. Bhat, Seh-Prabhari, BJP KDD, along with senior party leaders and prominent members of the displaced community. Addressing the gathering, Bhat questioned the timing and intent of the Government in implementing such a scheme during the peak Summer months of April and May, when Jammu is reeling under intense heat wave conditions and people are advised to remain indoors.
He highlighted the hardships faced by elderly citizens, physically challenged individuals, and women, who are being compelled to stand in long queues for biometric verification despite the lack of adequate infrastructure and technical manpower at designated centers. Bhat stated that while the community is not opposed to welfare schemes sponsored by the Central Government, the manner in which the State Government is executing them raises serious concerns about its intent and sensitivity.
He demanded the immediate revocation of the current order and called for a comprehensive review of the scheme in consultation with community representatives. He further urged that, until such a review is undertaken, monthly ration and relief must be disbursed to beneficiaries without any delay or procedural hurdles.
P. L. Pandita, Mandal president, BJP Tika Lal Taploo Mandal, drew attention to the deteriorating living conditions in migrant camps, particularly in Jagti and Nagrota, citing acute drinking water shortages, dilapidated lanes and by-lanes, and unhygienic surroundings caused by administrative neglect.
