Injured BSF jawan succumbs

JAMMU, Apr 17: A 25-year-old BSF jawan, who was injured in a road accident earlier this month in the RS Pura area, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Amritsar on Thursday evening, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Neeraj Saini, son of Darshan Lal, a resident of Chakra area in Bishnah, who was posted in Baramulla Town and was on leave at the time of the incident.
Officials said he met with the accident on April 2 when his two-wheeler was hit by a Verna car near Chak Mohd Yar village while he was on his way home from Jammu, resulting in serious injuries.
He was initially admitted to Government Medical College Jammu and later shifted to a hospital in Amritsar, where he breathed his last on Thursday evening, they said.
Officials said the body reached his native village on Thursday night and the last rites were performed with full honours amid large public attendance today.
While a case under the relevant sections of law already stood registered at RS Pura Police Station, further investigation is underway.
