India, Germany reinforce strategic ties on 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations

BERLIN, April 15 : India and Germany on Tuesday strengthened their strategic partnership during high-level Foreign Office Consultations in Berlin, reviewing bilateral cooperation across trade, defense, technology, and sustainable development, officials said.

The talks were co-chaired by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Germany’s State Secretary for Foreign Affairs G za Andreas von Geyr. Misri also held a bilateral meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

The consultations coincide with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, following the 25th anniversary of their Strategic Partnership in 2025. A commemorative logo was unveiled to mark the milestone.

Officials conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral engagement, including industrial partnerships, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, defense collaboration, and development initiatives in third countries.

Both sides also discussed regional and global issues, including developments in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The meetings, described as cordial and constructive, build on momentum from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to India in January this year, which advanced cooperation across priority sectors and set the stage for the next Inter-Governmental Consultations later this year. Misri invited von Geyr to visit India at a mutually convenient time.

“They agreed to further deepen and diversify cooperation in areas of contemporary relevance, including critical and emerging technologies, defence, industrial collaboration, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation, and development cooperation in third countries,” MEA said in a statement.

In addition to formal consultations, Misri engaged with German parliamentarians, senior foreign policy experts, and officials at the K rber Foundation.
