Over 700 flights cancelled on 1st day of Lufthansa strike

MOSCOW, April 14 : More than 700 flights have been cancelled on the first day of the strike at Lufthansa, Germany’s largest airline group, the Vereinigung Cockpit union said.
German trade union Vereinigung Cockpit previously called for a third wave of strikes by Lufthansa pilots on April 13-14. The first and second waves of pilot and flight attendant strikes took place in February and March 2026 and resulted in the cancellation of several hundred flights at airports in major German cities.
“The first day of the strike at Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo, CityLine, and Eurowings is proceeding as expected. More than 700 flights have been cancelLed so far,” the union said in a statement on Monday.
At the same time, union representatives confirmed their readiness for negotiations, noting that they are possible if there are “suitable proposals for discussion,” including on issues of remuneration and pension provision for employees.
The union also expressed regret over the inconvenience to passengers and the strain on ground staff, emphasising that strikes remain a necessary tool for pressuring employers.
