Govt outlines significance, key focus areas of grand meet

JAMMU, Apr 13: A three-day mega conclave is being organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in Srinagar from April 24 to 26 involving almost all States and Union Territories of the country, whose Ministers besides Principal Secretaries, Sports Authority Heads and nominated officials will attend.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Minister of State in the same Ministry Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and top brass of civil administration from Jammu and Kashmir are among the participants in the conclave which will be held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar for three days.
Significantly, Ministers, most likely those holding charge of the Youth Services and Sports, from 25 plus States and Union Territories of the country will attend the mega event for which preparations have been set in motion by the administration well in advance, official sources told the Excelsior.
Besides Ministers from almost all States and Union Territories, the Principal Secretaries, Sports Authority Heads and nominated officials will also join the conclave, they said.
Significance of the conclave includes ‘Strategic platform for Centre-State coordination on youth and sports development’, `Share best practices and innovative approaches from various States/UTs’, ‘Strengthen implementation of national sports and youth programs’ and ‘Foster collaboration for sports excellence and youth engagement’.
Key focus areas of the function include medal strategy for Khelo India Mission, Centre-State coordination through Khelo Bharat Niti, national anti-doping framework, talent identification and development, sports governance, sports goods manufacturing and youth engagement through MY Bharat, the sources said.
On April 25, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will address the `Chintan Shivir’ while Secretary Sports, Government of India will deliver welcome address. This will be followed by Session ` on `Medal Strategy: Khelo India Mission’ and Best Practices by Haryana and Manipur.
Session 2 on the same day will have discussion on `Khelo Bharat Niti: Centre-State Coordination’ and Best Practices by Gujarat, Telangana, Pune Grand Tour 2026. National Anti-Doping Framework and Talent Identification and Development are proposed in Sessions 3 and 4.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will also deliver speeches in the evening session on April 25.
On April 26 i.e. Day 3 of the conclave, Session 5 will have discussion on Sports Governance and Best Practices by Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh while Session 6 will deliberate Sports Goods Manufacturing and Best Practices by Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Session7 will have Youth Engagement through MY Bharat.
In the afternoon of April 26, sightseeing has been planned for the guests.
Administration is expecting around 250 guests from the Centre and States/Union Territories for the mega event.
Sources said such a major event in the heart of Srinagar will send yet another message of peace in Jammu and Kashmir especially the Valley and boost tourism in the upcoming season. The conclave is scheduled at a time which is ripe for the tourists and conduct of successful event will be a boon for the tourism, the sources said.
Authorities have started making security arrangements well in advance for the event of national level which will attract guests not only from the Government of India but also from all States and Union Territories, the sources said, adding fool-proof arrangements will be made for the mega gathering.
Though the conclave will last from April 24-26, some of the guests are expected to reach Srinagar a day in advance on April 23 and may depart on April 27, the sources said.
