DDP Jammu calls for stronger prosecution to combat drug menace

JAMMU, Apr 13: The Deputy Director Prosecution (DDP), Jammu, today convened a meeting of prosecutors posted in sessions and subordinate courts of Jammu district, directing them to strengthen prosecution efforts in cases related to drugs, particularly under the NDPS Act.
The meeting focused on enhancing coordination with the judiciary to effectively support the Government’s mission of achieving a drug-free Union Territory.
During the meeting, the DDP stressed that serious offences, including NDPS and POCSO cases, must be handled with utmost priority, sensitivity and confidentiality.
Prosecutors were asked to ensure proper presence of witnesses in courts and treat them with dignity, while protecting them from harassment or intimidation.
Emphasis was also laid on maintaining a courteous approach towards victims and complainants to build public trust in the justice system.
The DDP further directed prosecutors to stay updated with recent judgments of the Supreme Court and High Court and encouraged continuous learning within the department.
Highlighting the importance of integrity, he said there would be zero tolerance for corruption or misconduct, and all officers must act impartially and strictly as per law.
It was also informed that conviction rates and reasons for acquittals will be closely monitored, and any lapses will be addressed through corrective measures.
The DDP added that accountability will be fixed in cases of negligence.
