India’s fisheries exports climb to Rs 68,000 Cr despite US tariff : Minister

NAGPUR, Apr 11 : union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurian Baghel today stated that India’s fisheries exports have grown significantly, rising from Rs 60,000 crore to Rs 68,000 crore, even in the face of tariff pressures imposed by the United States.
He emphasized that the sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience despite initial concerns among exporters following the US tariff measures.
The steady growth, he noted, is a result of consistent government initiatives aimed at strengthening the industry through policy backing, improved infrastructure and a strong push for aquaculture.
Baghel also pointed out that India has been actively diversifying its seafood export destinations beyond traditional markets such as the US.
This strategic expansion has helped cushion the impact of trade barriers and ensured continued momentum in export performance.
Additionally, the minister highlighted the growing contribution of value-added seafood products, which, along with market diversification, has played a key role in boosting export revenues.
Amid global trade challenges, including rising protectionism, India’s fisheries sector continues to register stable growth and remains a vital pillar of the country’s agricultural exports.
