SRINAGAR, Apr 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti today that a civilian killed in a recent encounter in Ganderbal was a local resident and party worker and demanded that authorities release findings of an ongoing inquiry within the promised timeframe.
After meeting the family of the deceased Rashid Mughal in Ganderbal, Mufti told reporters that he was a resident of the district and associated with the PDP. Presenting documents, including domicile, she said the victim was an orphan and “a good man,” backing the family’s claim that he had no militant links. Click here to watch video
Mufti alleged that evidence had been fabricated to portray Mughal as a militant. “When they found his body, weapons were planted on him,” she said, adding that he was killed “in broad daylight” despite stepping out of his house unarmed.
Questioning the official version that described Mughal as a foreign militant, Mufti said it was implausible that “a Kashmiri man born in Ganderbal” could be labelled a Pakistani militant.
The remarks come after Manoj Sinha ordered a time-bound inquiry into the incident. Acknowledging the directive, Mufti urged authorities to adhere to the one-week deadline for the probe’s findings.
Mufti said that Mehbooba Mufti had spoken on the issue while questioning the absence of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
