JAMMU, Apr 9: Under ‘Week of Resentment’, a protest demonstration staged by the railway employees was held here today.
The ‘Week of Resentment’ is being observed from April 6 to April 10, 2026.
A large number of employees participated in the demonstration, expressing strong unity and awareness regarding their rights.
The gathering witnessed active participation from staff across various departments, highlighting growing concerns over multiple long-pending issues.
During the protest, employees raised several key demands, including the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and the abolition of the NPS/UPS payout system.
They also called for the scrapping of the contract labor system and sought a reduction in the disparity between minimum and maximum pay scales in the upcoming Pay Commission.
Other major issues highlighted included the urgent need for repair of existing railway quarters and construction of new housing units, resolution of transfer-related grievances under the ‘on-request’ category and speedy settlement of the ‘Cadre Close’ issue.
Additionally, employees demanded the grant of one or two additional increments.
Addressing the gathering, office bearers urged the administration to take prompt action on these demands.
They warned that failure to address the issues within a reasonable timeframe could lead to an intensification of the agitation.
