CHANDIGARH, Apr 7: The birth anniversary of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, popularly known as ‘Hind Di Chadar,’ was celebrated with immense religious fervor and devotion at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) and various other Gurdwaras on Tuesday.
Despite heavy rainfall in the region, a massive number of devotees gathered at the holy shrine to pay their respects and take a dip in the sacred sarovar.
Following the evening prayers of Rehras Sahib, a breathtaking display of eco-friendly fireworks illuminated the night sky over the Golden Temple complex.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), in collaboration with the sangat, organized the spectacular show, while the entire parikrama (circumambulatory path) was adorned with thousands of traditional lamps (deepmala), creating a divine and serene atmosphere.
Significant gatherings were also witnessed at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, the birthplace of the ninth Guru, where devotees had gathered in large numbers since early morning. The spiritual ambiance resonated with hymns as the community commemorated the Guru’s sacrifice and teachings of humanity and religious freedom.
Among the international devotees was Gursewak Singh Shergill, a resident of the United Kingdom, who visited with his entire family to mark the occasion. Speaking to the media, Shergill said that despite being born and raised in the UK, his roots remain deeply embedded in the soil of Punjab. He shared that his family had reached the shrine specifically to contribute to the ‘sewa’ (voluntary service) of providing high-quality speakers to the SGPC for the holy complex.
He noted that the tranquility experienced at the Guru’s house is incomparable and described the celestial fireworks at the Darbar Sahib as a unique sight found nowhere else in the world.
