KULGAM, Apr 6: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam district have registered 10 FIRs under the NDPS Act in the last three weeks, leading to the arrest of 14 drug peddlers.
Of these, nine FIRs were registered at Police Station Qazigund and one at Police Station Devsar.
During the operations, police recovered 415.61 grams of heroin, 1348 grams of charas (including powder and charas-like substance), 1.5 kilograms of bhang patri, and Rs 1, 37, 990 in cash.
Investigations in these cases have also led to the establishment of multiple backward and forward linkages, pointing towards a wider organized narcotics network.
According to police, in FIR number 35/2026 of Police Station Qazigund, 163 grams of charas powder was recovered from one Rasik Ahmad Padder of Emooh Verinag in Furrah.
In FIR number 36/2026, police said, 205 grams of charas powder was seized from one Mohammad Idrees Ganie of Furrah at Khrewan Lassipora crossing while as in FIR number 41/2026, 310 grams of charas was recovered from Maqsood Ahmad Naikoo of Nassu Badragund.
Similarly, in FIR number 43/2026, 278 grams of heroin (16 grams on the spot and 262 grams through backward linkages) along with Rs 17000 was recovered from one Mohammad Rafiq Mir of Srinagar and Bagh Hussain of Jammu at Kurigam.
The investigation in this case led to a major breakthrough, as a search conducted at Beli Charana in Jammu resulted in the recovery of 262 grams of heroin, exposing an inter-district drug syndicate.
Police further said in FIR number 52/2026, 1.5 kilograms of bhang patri was recovered from Rafaqat Ahmad Khan of New Colony Kurigam.
In FIR number 53/2026, they said, 5 grams of heroin was seized from Sahil Farooq of Qazigund and in FIR number 58/2026, 125.61 grams of heroin along with Rs 85000 was recovered from one Sikander Singh of Punjab and Mohammad Shafi Wani of DH Pora at Upper Bazaar near Doru Crossing.
Police said in FIR number 61/2026, 140 grams of charas was recovered from Yawar Ahmad Dar of Mandhole at Wanpora and in FIR number 63/2026, 7 grams of heroin, 140 grams of Charas and Rs 33,690 were recovered from Mohammad Mantoo Sheikh and Sameer Khatoon of Delhi at Nawa Qazigund.
Similarly, in FIR number 15/2026 of Police Station Devsar, around 390 grams of cannabis (including charas-like substance) along with Rs 2200 was recovered from Bilal Ahmad Tenda of Gujjar Basti Dardgund during naka checking at General Road Cheyan, when he tried to flee.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary, said the police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and will continue strict action against those involved.
He also appealed to the public to share information related drug peddling, assuring complete confidentially of informants.
