JAMMU, Apr 4: Amid reports of SMVDU seeking fresh permission to run medical college, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sangharsh Samiti has warned against any compromise with the Sanatan values.
In this regard, a meeting of the Sangharsh Samiti was held at Geeta Bhawan Jammu, wherein strong resentment was expressed over the functioning of the Shrine Board and its proposed plan to establish a medical college.
The meeting was presided over by Colonel Sukhvir Singh Mankotia (Convener) and Parshottam Dadhichi, President of Shree Sanatan Dharam Sabha. Senior member of the committee, Akshay Kumar, was also present.
The committee warned the Government and administration that all activities and institutions run by the Shrine Board must strictly adhere to the beliefs and traditions of Sanatan Dharma, failing which Jammu may once again witness a massive agitation similar to that seen in the past.
Addressing the meeting, Colonel Sukhvir Singh Mankotia said that a large-scale public outreach campaign would be launched in the coming days under which members of the Samiti will meet various public representatives to gather their opinions and make them aware of the seriousness of this sensitive issue.
The Samiti has decided to first send a detailed letter to the National Medical Commission and the Union Health Minister demanding that the faith of millions of Sanatan followers must not be compromised in any way, and necessary amendments must be made in the existing rules of the Shrine Board so that the institution can preserve its original religious identity.
Prominent figures from the legal and business communities also voiced their opinions during the discussion. Baldev Singh, Vice President of the Bar Association Jammu, proposed the formation of a special legal committee to ensure that amendments aligned with Sanatan values are incorporated into the Board’s constitution.
Neeraj Anand, President of the Chamber of Traders Federation, stressed that permission to run a medical college by the Shrine board should be granted only on the condition that the entire university and medical college operate in accordance with Sanatan values. He added that the Shrine Board’s assets are donations from devotees and must be used within the framework of Sanatan traditions.
The meeting was attended by Prabhat Singh, Sanjay Gupta, Shilpi Verma, Advocate Deepak, Abhishek Gupta, Subhash Jandial, Kartik Sudan, Akshi Baloria, Preeti Chaudhary, and Keshav.
