Ex-Serviceman murdered in Lala Chak, one arrested

SAMBA, Apr 1: A 60-year-old Ex-Serviceman was murdered in Lala Chak village, located in the border tehsil of Rajpura in Samba district on Wednesday afternoon.
Following the killing, the accused abandoned the body by the roadside and fled. The police have recovered a sharp-edged ice pick (an instrument used for breaking ice) from the site. Upon spotting the blood-soaked body, locals were left in shock and immediately alerted the local police.
Meanwhile, locals apprehended an individual-who was heavily intoxicated-wearing blood-stained clothes. The police arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and transported it to the District Hospital, Samba, for a post-mortem. They also arrested the individual detained by the locals and brought him to the Police Station. The 60-year-old victim was an Ex-Serviceman who had been working as a commission agent (Arhati) at the local vegetable market for the past 22 years.
The incident occurred along the roadside near Bai Nala in Lala Chak, situated on the old Kathua-Samba road, as the victim-Harish Chander-was returning home from work at the Dayala Chak Vegetable Market. He was murdered by unknown assailants who slit his throat. The victim’s car was also found parked by the roadside at the scene. This incident has created an atmosphere of panic and outrage throughout the entire region.
According to reports, unknown assailants targeted the commission agent and murdered him. Preliminary suspicions suggest that the motive behind the crime may be a personal feud or a financial dispute. However, the police are investigating the matter from every possible angle. A forensic team was also summoned to the scene, where they collected evidence. Interrogation of the arrested individual is currently underway, and the police are working to identify any other individuals who may have been involved in this crime.
Expressing deep grief and outrage over the incident, local residents have demanded that the administration take strict action against the culprits. Meanwhile, police officials have given assurances that the matter will be investigated impartially and the culprits will be brought to justice as soon as possible.
