GDA imposes restrictions on transportation of construction material

SRINAGAR, Mar 31: The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) has imposed strict restrictions on the transportation of construction material and other goods within Gulmarg to protect its ecological sensitivity and regulate development activities.
The advisory, issued by the Chief Executive Officer of GDA, applies to all departments, contractors, service providers and stakeholders operating in the area.
Under the new rules, vehicles carrying construction material will be allowed to operate only between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and strictly with prior written permission from the competent authority.
Sundays have been declared no-movement days, and no vehicle carrying any material will be allowed beyond Tangmarg.
The authority has also banned transportation of materials without permission or during restricted hours, as well as carriage of materials in private or passenger vehicles.
Deployment of heavy machinery such as excavators and loaders will require prior approval.
The measures have been introduced in line with the Master Plan 2032 and existing regulations to control vehicular movement and minimize environmental impact amid growing tourism and construction pressure.
Violations will attract penalties including seizure of vehicles, legal action, and blacklisting of contractors.
Night halting of vehicles carrying construction material has also been prohibited, and all vehicles must exit within the prescribed time limits.
