JAMMU, Mar 31: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained a habitual offender and alleged bovine smuggler under the Public Safety Act, officials said.
The accused, identified as Amit Kumar, a resident of Phinder in R S Pura tehsil of Jammu district, was detained following his repeated involvement in bovine smuggling cases, they said.
Acting on the directions of the District Magistrate Kathua, a detention warrant was issued against the accused, they said.
According to the police, Kumar had been evading arrest for several months and was involved in multiple cases registered at Hiranagar and Lakhanpur police stations under relevant provisions of the BNS and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Following the detention, the accused has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu, they added. (Agencies)
