JAMMU, Mar 30: The 18th SEED workshop and CME programme on Airway Management was conducted at AIIMS Jammu, bringing together leading experts and healthcare professionals to strengthen critical airway management skills.
Organized by the Department of Anaesthesiology in collaboration with the Airway Management Foundation (AMF), the workshop was held under the guidance of Prof (Dr) DN Sharma, Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Jammu. The programme was supervised by AMF office bearers Dr Rakesh Kumar (president), Dr Sunil Kumar (secretary) and Dr Shakti Dutt Sharma (treasurer).
Dr Sujata Choudhary, Additional DGHS, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Dr Kavita Sharma, Director, VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, attended as guests of honour. The organizing committee comprised Dr Sunana Gupta (organizing chairperson), Dr Shruti Sharma (co-organizing chairperson), Dr Raksha Kundal (organizing secretary), along with members Dr Kanika Gupta, Dr Sandeepika Dogra, Dr Slomi Gupta and Dr Aleesha Gupta.
The workshop focused on enhancing both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills in airway management-an essential component in anaesthesia and emergency medicine. The academic programme included nine focused sessions covering airway anatomy, airway assessment, oxygenation strategies, use of supraglottic airway devices, videolaryngoscopy, airway topicalisation, flexible fiberscope intubation, and Front of Neck Access (FONA) techniques. Experts also stressed the need for wider availability of advanced tools like videolaryngoscopes and supraglottic devices to improve clinical outcomes.
The event witnessed participation from faculty members, residents, postgraduate students, interns, and practicing doctors from institutions including GMC Jammu, GMC Kathua, GMC Udhampur, GMC Rajouri, ASCOMS, SMVDIME, and ESI Hospital, along with senior consultants from the health department.
Prof (Dr) D N Sharma highlighted the critical role of effective airway management in routine and emergency care, noting that such workshops promote skill development and better patient outcomes where as Prof (Dr) Meeta Gupta, Dean Academics, emphasized its importance in disaster preparedness and response.
