SRINAGAR, Mar 29: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Cooperatives and Election Departments, Javid Ahmad Dar, today said the Government is committed to promote high-value floriculture and strengthening rural livelihoods in Jammu and Kashmir, as he inaugurated a tulip garden at MCRS Sagam of SKUAST-K.
During his visit to the Centre of Excellence for Tulip and Temperate Bulb Production, the Minister inspected the tulip beds and reviewed ongoing floriculture and research activities. A publication highlighting the Centre’s research achievements, innovations and developmental initiatives was also released.

Speaking to reporters, Javid Dar lauded the involvement of the local community in establishing the Tulip Garden, calling it a model of participatory development. He said that although the garden is still in its early stage, it holds significant potential for the future.
The Minister also emphasized that the initiative would reduce dependence on imported tulip bulbs, thereby promoting self-reliance and strengthening the local economy.
He reiterated the Government’s commitment to developing Jammu and Kashmir as a hub for high-value floriculture through focused investments, policy support and institutional strengthening. He also stressed the need to integrate scientific advancements with field-level practices and accelerate the dissemination of modern technologies among farmers to enhance productivity and sustainability.
Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Nazir Ahmad Ganai, said the Tulip Garden at Sagam is a strategic initiative aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in bulb production while promoting diversification and resilience in the agriculture sector.
