SRINAGAR, Mar 27: Hundreds of devotees drawn from Kashmir Valley and different parts of country thronged the ancient Durga Nag temple in the foothills of Shankaracharya on the occasion of Durga Ashtami and Ram Navmi today to pay obeisance to Goddess Durga.
The rush of devotees started from early morning and continued up to late in the evening. The devotees besides paying obeisance at the holy spring of Mata and temple performed Pooja in a traditional way. They also performed Pooja in adjoining Shiv temples in the Durganag complex and prayed for peace and prosperity of mankind.
Bhajan Kirtan in praise of Goddess Durga was also held by devotees.
On the occasion a Maha Yagya was Solemnised. The hawan started yesterday evening which concluded this afternoon. It was followed by serving of Prashad to people. The Hawan was as usual performed by Durga Nag Trust led by former Chief Secretary, Vijay Bakaya. The hawan was performed in the supervision of Dr R L Dhar general secretary of the Trust and Kundan Kashmiri senior Trustee.
They also highlighted the activities of the Trust and steps taken by it for preservation and development of this great shrine and cultural monument of Kashmir whose history dates back to Puranik period.
Devotees also performed Kanjak Pujan on the occasion.
