JAMMU, Mar 27: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Health and Medical College employees, Jammu & Kashmir, held a meeting at the office of the Jammu & Kashmir Medical Employees Federation (JKMEF) to address the long-pending issue of non-payment of a two-and-a-half days’ salary allowance.
During the meeting, JKMEF president Jaswinder Singh expressed concern over what he termed a non-serious approach by the authorities in resolving the issue. He pointed out that the Finance Department, through Government Order Number 274-HME of 1991, had stopped the special allowance granted to non-gazetted employees of the Health and Medical Education Department, which was earlier paid in lieu of Sunday, gazetted holidays, and roster duties.
Jaswinder Singh further stated that although a Government committee had submitted its report on March 18, 2023, no resolution has been reached so far. As a result, the JAC had already observed a two-day strike on March 24 and 25.
Arun Kumar Sharma urged the Government to revoke the controversial order by March 31, failing which the JAC will launch a 72-hour strike from April 1 to April 3. The decision was unanimously supported by all members.
JKMEF chairman Sushil Sudan, along with other members, also voiced strong concern over the authorities’ attitude and demanded immediate withdrawal of the order until the committee’s recommendations are implemented.
Among those present at the meeting were Bahadur Singh (working president, JKMEF), Parfulat Singh (general secretary), Nadeem Khan (general secretary), Arun Sharma, Anoop Kholi, Bharat Bhushan, Harpal Singh, Rakesh Bakshi, Gharu Ram, Nissar Khan and Ram Lal (secretary, JKMEF).
