JAMMU, Mar 26: The daily wage workers of the Jal Shakti/ PHE department today issued fervent appeal to the Lt Governor of J&K UT, Manoj Sinha to stay the salary hike decision of the Members of Legislative Assembly till the decision with regard to the increase in the wages of the daily- rated workers and their regularisation is settled by the popular NC- led Government in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to the media persons here today, senior members of PHE Employees United Front, Ravi Hans, Rajinder Singh Taj, Hoshiar Singh, Mohan Lal Sharma and Navdeep Singh said that United Front has issued an appeal to the LG Manoj Sinha, requesting a stay on the cabinet decision to increase the salaries of MLAs.
They argued that this decision is unjustified, as all political parties had promised to regularize the services of daily wagers during the elections. However, instead of fulfilling this promise, the JKUT Government is only increasing salary, allowances of the MLAs, which is causing widespread discontent and strong resentment among the workers who are surviving on just a peanut wages. They should feel ashamed that instead of doing something for the poor and hapless working class, they are worried for themselves and their families only.
They pointed out that on March 11, 2025, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah formed a committee to address the issue of regularization of daily wagers and assured the Legislative Assembly that the government would provide an update on its actions for daily wagers during the next Budget Session.
But unfortunately, the government has yet to make any decision regarding daily wage workers but on the other hand they are prioritizing the acquisition of new vehicles, increasing home loans, and enhancing CDF for themselves. This is perceived as a betrayal of the public trust.
The United Front leaders urged the Lt Governor to stay the decision to increase the salaries and allowances of MLAs until the government takes concrete action for daily wager worker.
