MATHURA, Mar 21: President Droupadi Murmu prayed at the Danghati Temple in Govardhan here on Saturday, the third day of her Uttar Pradesh visit, official sources said.
The president participated in the aarti of Giriraj Ji Maharaj and did the Govardhan Parikrama.
Danghati temple receiver Deep Chandra Kaushik said that amid chants of “Giriraj Dharan ki Jai” and other hymns, the president performed a ‘mahabhishek’ using 11 kg of milk, curd, honey, ghee and powdered sugar.
He added that Murmu was presented with a silver idol of Giriraj Ji Maharaj, a ceremonial stole and prasad.
According to spiritual beliefs, the Braj region, dating back to the era of Krishna (Dwapar Yug), holds three eternal elements: Giriraj Ji, Braj Bhoomi, and the Yamuna River.
Afterwards, the president completed the circumambulation of the Govardhan hills, smiling and waving at devotees as she walked, temple sewayat Pawan Kaushik said.
She walked about 200 metres before completing the remaining parikrama in a golf cart.
Murmu was accompanied by the UP governor and a cabinet minister.
The president also made a halt at the Mukut Mukharbind Temple near Mansi Ganga. During her brief stay there, she offered flowers, coconut and performed aarti of the Mansi Ganga, temple sewayat Vinod Kumar Sharma said.
While she was there, saints sang bhajans on instruments such as clarinet, dhol and nagaras.
The president planted a banyan sapling in Govardhan and interacted with children who were there to participate in cultural programmes.
After the programme, Murmu departed for Delhi.
Governor Anandiben Patel saw her off at the helipad, according to an official release.
Murmu’s three-day visit to the state began on March 19 from Ayodhya. She earlier visited the Ram Janmabhoomi. (PTI)
