JAMMU, Mar 2: The International Wheelchair Day was observed at the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Jammu (Samba), here today.
The day was observed under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Jammu and PMDK.
The event was graced by Dr Rohnika Sharma, Director of CRC Jammu (Samba), Preeti Sharma, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Jammu officials from the Social Welfare Department, Naveen Gupta, Administrative Officer and Rahul Singh, Rehabilitation Officer of CRC Jammu and representatives from PMDK Dr Hasnain Khan, P&O.
During the programme, one motorized tricycle and four wheelchairs were distributed to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to enhance their mobility, independence and overall quality of life.
The initiative aimed to empower beneficiaries by promoting accessibility and inclusion in society.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director of CRC Jammu (Samba) emphasized the importance of assistive devices in enabling persons with disabilities to lead dignified and self-reliant lives.
The DSWO, Jammu, appreciated the collaborative efforts and reiterated the commitment of the Social Welfare Department towards the welfare and empowerment of Divyangjan.
International Wheelchair Day serves as a reminder to recognize the positive impact of wheelchairs in the lives of millions of people worldwide and to promote awareness about accessibility and inclusivity.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the continued dedication of CRC Jammu (Samba) and its partner departments towards supporting and empowering persons with disabilities.
