NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court today directed the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure that relief reaches the last man affected by the floods in the state. A bench, headed by Chief Justice R M Lodha, gave the direction on a PIL seeking to expedite the relief and rehabilitation for the flood victims.
The bench expressed satisfaction at the relief and rehabilitation operation carried out by the authorities but said a lot more was required.
The apex court asked why relief has not reached eight districts of the state.
Justice Lodha said, “We have seen on TV that many victims of unprecedented floods were stuck off on the roofs of their houses waiting for relief.”
The apex court was given an assurance that no efforts were being spared in relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations being carried out by all the 3 wings of the Armed Forces. (AGENCIES)
