LG appoints Shantmanu as SEC

JAMMU, Feb 17: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today appointed Shantmanu, a retired IAS officer of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir cadre, as the new State Election Commissioner (SEC), a post which was lying vacant since April last year.
An order issued by the GAD said Shantmanu will hold the post of SEC for a period of five years or till he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
“The appointment of SEC shall take effect from the date Shantmanu assumes the charge,” the order read and said terms and conditions of the appointment shall be notified by the Government subsequently.
Post of the SEC was lying vacant since April, 2024 when BR Sharma completed his term.
The SEC is mandated to hold Panchayat, Municipalities, BDCs and DDCs elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
