Rajinder Tickoo, Assistant Producer News 18 dies of suffocation

JAMMU, Feb 15: Rajinder Tickoo a journalist who was associated with News Eighteen (JKLH) and ETV Urdu as Assistant Producer breathed his last due to suffocation after a fire broke out in his at Jagti township flat early this morning. He was 57.
Police said that Tickoo’s body was found in his smoke filled room, with initial inputs suggesting the fire may have been triggered by an electric blanket short circuit. He was alone at his residence and probably died of suffocation caused by the electric blanket catching fire due to short circuit.
His body was sent to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for post-mortem, which will be conducted once his family returns, a police officer said.
Besides, a working journalist Tickoo was a versatile artist who had been associated with theatre for over three decades, acting on stage, television and films.
Tickoo was credited with revival of Kashmiri’s traditional satirical musical storytelling form, Ladishah, through a popular TV presentation on ETV Urdu. He would appear in traditional attire , a Pheran and a turban and recite the rhyming lines on the Dhukar Instrument. He combined humour, satire and commentary in the show drawing attention to youngsters using social and political themes. His demise has grieved artists and media community of the J&K UT.
