GUWAHATI, Feb 11: The Special Revision of the voters’ list in Assam included an electorate of 2,49,58,139 in the final electoral rolls, with names of lakhs of doubtful voters removed following complaints lodged by the BJP worker, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.

Assam Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Anurag Goel, said during the day that a total of 2,43,485 voters’ names were dropped from the draft list, which had recorded 2,52,01,624 voters.

As per the published final electoral rolls, Assam has a total of the 2,49,58,139 eligible voters, including 1,24,82,213 male, 1,24,75,583 female and 343 voters in the third gender category.

Earlier, addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said that more names will be dropped after the Special Intensive Revision in Assam.

“BJP workers have lodged complaints and based on those complaints, lots of names were dropped. After the Asaam Accord, it is for the first time that a substantial number of names of doubtful voters were dropped. This happened for the first time in Assam,” said the Chief Minister.

“There have been attempts to intimidate our workers, but despite that the BJP workers have done that. It is because of their courage that we have been successful in wiping out the names of foreigners,” he said, adding that the fight against illegal foreigners and Bangladeshis will continue in Assam.
