Jammu, Feb 10: Mission Shakti, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Department of Social Welfare, J&K, in its continued efforts to strengthen maternal health and promote the well-being of mothers and children, organized an awareness session on the nutritional health of pregnant and lactating mothers at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC), Marh.
The session aimed to sensitize expectant and new mothers about the critical role of proper nutrition during pregnancy and breastfeeding, which directly impacts the health, growth, and development of both mother and child.
The resource person, Dr. Bhanu Mahajan, Gynaecologist, elaborated on the importance of a balanced and diversified diet, timely meals, adequate intake of iron, calcium, folic acid, protein, and essential micronutrients, along with sufficient hydration. Special emphasis was laid on the prevention of anemia and malnutrition. Participants were guided on incorporating locally available, affordable and nutritious food items into their daily diets. The programme also included interactive discussions, allowing mothers to share their concerns and clarify doubts related to diet, health supplements, and government support services.
District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti, Shagun Manchanda, reiterated that healthy mothers form the foundation of a healthy society, and empowering women with nutritional knowledge is a crucial step towards reducing maternal and infant health risks. She also expressed her sincere gratitude to District Social Welfare Officer Preeti Sharma for her valuable support in making the event a success. As a gesture of care and support for mother and child, blankets were distributed to all pregnant women by Mission Shakti.
