JAMMU, Feb 10: To press for early release of funds for drainage works in Ward No. 34 of Old Janipur, a delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by district president Urban OBC Cell Amit Dogra today met senior officials of the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED), Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and the Deputy Director Planning.
The delegation, accompanied by local residents, raised serious concerns over open drains and nallahs that have turned unhygienic, causing difficulties for shopkeepers, residents and street vendors in the area.
The proposed drainage coverage project, estimated at Rs 72.02 lakh, was discussed in detail during the meeting.
Officials informed the delegation that the proposal has been appreciated and approved and is planned to be executed during the current financial year 2025-26.
However, it was clarified that the release of funds is pending approval from the Jammu Municipal Commissioner.
Highlighting the public welfare aspect, Amit Dogra urged the authorities to avoid further delays.
The JMC Commissioner subsequently referred the matter to the Deputy Director Planning and assured that the project would be taken on priority and included prominently in the upcoming Budget 2026-27.
Authorities expressed hope that the drainage development work would begin in early April 2026.
Bharti Devi, Sanjay Panday, Balwant Raj and other local representatives were also present during the meetings.
