Police foils multiple bovine smuggling attempts; 48 animals rescued

UDHAMPUR, Feb 10: Udhampur Police have intensified their crackdown on bovine smuggling, foiling multiple illegal transportation attempts across the district and rescuing 48 bovine animals during naka checking operations conducted under various police station jurisdictions.
In the first incident under the jurisdiction of Police Station Udhampur, a police party intercepted a vehicle bearing Registration No. JK02DL-7735 during routine naka checking.
Upon inspection, four bovine animals were found loaded in a cruel manner. The driver, however, managed to flee the spot and remains unidentified.
In this connection, FIR No. 41/2026 under Section 223(a) BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act has been registered, and investigation is underway.
In another case at PS Udhampur, a vehicle bearing Registration No. HR-55AB-0701 was intercepted during naka checking, wherein 23 bovine animals were found being transported illegally.
The driver was identified as Arshad Ali, son of Mohd. Liqat, a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, who failed to produce valid permission or documents for transportation.
Accordingly, FIR No. 42/2026 under Section 223(a) BNS and Section 11 PCA Act was registered, and the accused was arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
Earlier, the Police also foiled two separate bovine smuggling attempts at Police Station Chenani and Police Station Panchari, rescuing 21 bovines.
At Motor Shed Naka, NHW Chenani, a truck bearing Registration No. JK02AU-4456, coming from Udhampur towards Srinagar, was intercepted. During checking, 15 bovine animals were found loaded in a cruel manner and being transported illegally without any permission.
In this regard, FIR No. 23/2026 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 PCA Act has been registered at PS Chenani.
In another case at Police Station Panchari, acting on reliable information, a police party intercepted a TATA Mobile vehicle bearing Registration No. JK14J-3731, which was found transporting six bovine animals from Moungri towards Kainthgali in a cruel manner without legal authorization.
A case FIR No. 09/2026 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 PCA Act has been registered, and investigation is underway.
In a significant development, Udhampur Police have also attached a vehicle worth approximately Rs 10 lakh belonging to a habitual bovine smuggler, under Section 107(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), in compliance with the orders of the Court, Udhampur.
The attached vehicle is a TATA Yodha 1700 Pick-Up bearing Registration No. JK14H-8621, owned by Younis Mohd, son of Bind Ali, resident of Darsoo, District Udhampur.
The vehicle was involved in FIR No. 001/2026 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 PCA Act, registered at Police Station Panchari.
